Given the continuing failure of the two-party system, this blog will consistently advocate the creation of a competitive third party, in the tradition of Alexander Hamilton, Henry Clay, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and other advocates of a strong national government serving - not special interests - but the common good. And, in these dangerous times, this blog will insist that such a party be far more focused than either major party on the vital necessity of addressing the global climate crisis.

My influences include a lawyer's bias toward traditional conservatism; a problem-solver's temperamental orientation toward change; an inherited confidence in a nation which has provided opportunity to millions and met enormous challenges in the past; and an informed awareness of how far the present generation has fallen short of that tradition.
With three degrees from the University of Virginia (earned over four different decades), I'm a lifelong student, especially of history and biography.
I've practiced law, served as Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia, taught high school, and worked as a professional actor and journalist. For several years, I was full-time caregiver to my mother, in her 90s.
